Research In Motion Makes Tech News

Canadian Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM) has made tech news by announcing that it intends to incorporate Near Field Communications (NFC) technologies into all of its future smartphones and tablets. The company expects that the inbuilt close-range wireless technology will create new businesses, markets, and revenue streams.
The technology simulates that found in Oyster cards and contact-free bank payment cards. The company's vision is that NFC technologies in phones will eventually eliminate the need for multiple chip-containing products, with a single smartphone acting as a central hub to your travel and payment needs. Of course it is not an idea exclusive to RIM. NFC looks set to become a global standard after the GSM Association confirmed that many of the world's major mobile operators have agreed to implement the technology by 2012.
