Canadian Technology News

Canadian technology news has been dour as of late, with the implosion of Nortel Networks two years ago followed by the slow-motion collapse of RIM.

This week Research in Motion added to investor concerns as it issued a profit warning and announced first quarter earnings which were sharply lower than analyst estimates. The company also said it would be forced to cut jobs going forward. If RIM is not able to regain momentum, the implications for the entire technology industry in Canada could be dire. That's because the company has been a central player in the Canadian technology space for years, and can be credited with creating countless jobs, innovations and partnerships that benefit the entire country. The troubling results have major implications for the 17,500 employees of RIM, as well as its many investors and community stakeholders.
